A Surge of Hope: 532 Reasons to Believe

In the highlands of Minembwe, where the sounds of conflict often drown out the rhythms of daily life, something extraordinary is unfolding. While families are forced to flee with only what they can carry, they are carrying their children toward a specific destination: the classroom.

This academic year, CODAP-UEMI witnessed an unprecedented surge in enrollment. Despite the ongoing instability in eastern DRC, 532 children arrived at our gates; a 45% increase from last year.

Many of these students are internally displaced, having fled their homes with empty hands. Yet, their parents did not bring them to a food distribution center or a temporary shelter first; they brought them to school. In a region marked by deep vulnerability, this is a profound declaration that education is the ultimate anchor of stability.

Excellence Against All Odds

Even as airstrikes and displacement disrupted lives earlier this year, our teachers and students remained undeterred. CODAP-UEMI continues to serve as a sanctuary of excellence:

  • For the 7th consecutive year, we are ranked #1 in the Fizi-5 education zone.
  • Unrivaled Success: We maintain a 100% pass rate on national exams, proving that conflict cannot stifle potential.
  • Our doors remain open through waves of armed conflict, providing a sense of normalcy for traumatized children.
  • We provide a safe learning environment for students who often lack access to basic shelter, food, or medicine.

The Children are Showing Up. Will You?

These children have fled violence and watched their communities collapse, yet they still choose to believe in a future. They choose school. They choose hope. They choose to believe that the world has not forgotten them.

We invite you to prove them right.

How You Can Support This Lifeline:

  • Scholarship Support: Ensure a displaced child can remain in school by covering their tuition and supplies.
  • Teacher Solidarity: Support the dedicated educators who remain on the front lines to provide stability for these children.
